This summer I will most likely be heading along to the 2009 Relentless Boardmasters Surf/Skate/BMX/Music festival. Its becomes some what of a annual tradition to head down to Newquay for the week, surf the swell, eat well, drink lots and enjoy all that Europe's largest surf festival has to offer.
This year is set to be as bigger than any other. First confirmed headliner for the weekend music festival, held down at Watergate Bay, is none other The Streets. Skinner will perform alongside numerous other acts, which are as of yet unannounced. But no doubt there will be more huge acts to follow, these guys know how to put together a festival like no other.
Although the two day long music event is second to none, its not all thats on offer. Let us not forget the main event. Seven days worth of Surf competitions, BMX, Skate and Blade events which all take place down at Fistral Beach. Alongside the daily surfing heats and comps, Vans and Eastpak take care of the vert and miniramp demos and jams. Expect to see some big names, including Vans BMX riders, Phil Aller, Sebastian Keep, Jon Taylor, Ben Hennon and Chris Mahoney which have all been present in previous years.
This all tied in with parties every night, held at various bars and clubs around Newquay, make this one hell of a week. If you can sort out travel, this whole week can work out pretty good money wise too. £10 entry to Fistral Beach for the entire week, plus around £50 for the two day weekend music ticket. Not too bad considering the size and scale of the event.
